The Interview
The best advice here is be prepared.
Don’t be late!
Leave plenty of time to travel to your interview. Lateness creates a
poor first impression and gets the interview off to a bad start. You
should probably aim to be 10 - 15 minutes early. If you are on a tight
timescale, make sure the interviewer knows the amount of time you have
available. If you are traveling a long way by train or car make
allowances for delays or parking problems.
….On the other hand if you are kept waiting, there will usually be a
valid reason for the delay, so try and keep positive and avoid making
comments regarding the situation which may filter back to your
interviewer.
Dress Appropriately
Speak to your Consultant who will be able to tell you the
appropriate dress code.
Take with you …
- A copy of your CV
- Anything specifically requested by the interviewer
- References/reference details
- Passport and visa details - if required
- Examples of your work, which may be of interest to your
interviewer
Be sure to know:
- Name and position of the person you are meeting.
- Directions of how to get to the interview
- Likely length of interview
- Job description and any tests you may have to perform. Be certain
about the type of job, responsibilities and objectives you are looking
for.
- As much about the job as possible before you go. Whilst your
consultant will brief you as fully as they are able, your goal is to
use the knowledge you have gained to demonstrate a “match” between your
background and the needs of the employer. The best place to find out
further information is from the Internet. It is always useful to check
on who their competitors are, it demonstrates you are both keen and
thorough in your research.
Always -
- Prepare 3 or 4 good questions, but try to think of other
questions that are relevant to what you’ve been told by the
interviewer, it shows you were listening
- Relax – you wouldn’t be in the interview if your consultant and
the interviewer didn’t think you were up to the job
- Turn off your mobile phone BEFORE you go in to the interview
